When a sliding door lock needs attention
A sliding door lock does a quiet job, and you tend to notice it only when it stops working. Maybe the latch no longer catches the frame. Maybe the lock turns but nothing moves, or the key or thumb turn feels loose, stiff or gritty. Maybe you have to lift or shove the door every time to get it to lock.
Most of these problems come down to a few causes. The latch and the keeper (the catch on the door frame) can drift out of line over time. The lock body or its internal parts can wear out or break. Or the door itself has dropped a little because of worn rollers or a dirty track, which throws the lock out of alignment. Phoenix dust, heat and monsoon debris are hard on all of these parts.
We look at the whole door, not just the lock. If a simple adjustment of the lock and keeper solves it, that is what we do. If the lock is worn out, we replace it. If the real problem is the rollers or the track, we tell you so, and you decide how to proceed.
When you call, tell us what the lock is doing and the brand of the door if you know it. We can usually tell you what to expect before we arrive.

Sliding door lock questions
Why won't my sliding door lock or latch?
Most often the latch and the keeper no longer line up. The door may have dropped slightly from worn rollers, or dirt in the track may be keeping it from closing fully. Sometimes the lock itself is worn or broken. We check all of these during the visit and tell you which one it is.
Can a sliding door lock be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
Often a lock and keeper adjustment is all it takes. If the lock body is worn out or broken, replacing it is the better fix. We explain both options and give you an upfront, flat-rate price before any work starts.
Is it the lock or the handle?
On many sliding doors the lock and the handle are part of the same set, so a problem in one can look like a problem in the other. We'll tell you whether the lock, the handle or both need work. If it is only the handle, see our sliding glass door handle replacement page.
My door is hard to slide and the lock misses the frame. Are they related?
They can be. Worn rollers or a damaged track let the door sag, and a sagging door puts the lock out of line. Fixing the rollers or track can fix the lock problem too, so we check them as part of the quote.
How much does sliding door lock repair cost?
It depends on the door and on whether the lock needs adjusting or replacing. We don't guess over the phone. We give a free in-home quote with upfront, flat-rate pricing and no surprise fees.
Do you work on my brand of door?
We service and install many brands, including Andersen, Pella, Milgard, Marvin, Jeld-Wen, Simonton, Fleetwood and others. Tell us your brand when you call, and we'll talk through what to expect.
